My name is Candi   Location: Kansas
Gogo

Age: 3 years old

Gender: Female

Status: Spayed

Housetrained: Yes

Cats: Likely Yes

Children: Yes

Child age:

Temperament: A real sweetheart

Other Info: What a charmer this little girl is!  A RR/mix, 2-3 yrs old, Candi is full grown at 65 lbs.  Her ridge is far from perfect as a small strip down her neck.  She's done exceptionally well with the people she's met.  Our cat & other dogs adore her.  She has not been around children but will do fine with a little supervision.  Sometimes she doesn't want to go into her crate but will with positive persuasion.  Following basic commands seems to be very natural to her.  Her favorite times are when snuggling.  She's going to be an excellent 'side kick' for some lucky family.  You may not know it yet, but she is waiting for you.

If you would like to learn more or if you think Candi might be a good fit for your family, please complete an online website application (www.rrus.org) and one of our volunteers will contact you.

Thanks for choosing adoption!

My name is Zevin   Location: Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Age: 6 years old

Gender: Female

Status: Spayed

Housetrained: Yes

Cats: Yes

Children: Yes, but read below

Child age: Any age

Temperament: Sweet, Shy and a Total Lover
Other Info:
Hi, my name is Zevin and my foster mom says I would do best with a family that understands my best sides and what I still need to work on.  I may be shy, but where I come from, there are only dogs and not many people so it is easier for me to meet a dog or a cat than a human some times!   I am very excited to meet new people but sometimes I take a little bit to warm up to them...especially men with hats.  I have only barked once because I am a good girl!  Mom says I do well with meeting dogs one or two at a time and don't really have much to do with cats, but I will share the same home with them!  I also am a bit wary of male humans, but if they show me that they are nice and give me lots of attention, I won't leave their side.  I don't like to be yelled at and would prefer that you give me treats to tell me how you would like things done!  Everyone loves treats!!!!

My favorite past time is walking.  My foster mom calls my walk a "trot" and says that she has to walk about 4 miles per hour to keep up with me!  I will walk slower if you need me to, or I do well on the left side of a bike as well.  So far I have met many new things, including something called a blow dryer and vacuum cleaners and other loud noises, but I am getting better with each new sound and as long as my parents are there to experience it with me, I am ok!  I even went for a pontoon ride and thought that was pretty fun as well.
I love little kids, but I am very afraid of any balls, from tennis balls to large balls.  I can't tell my mom why, but I would prefer that I don't go to a home that has balls in it regularly. If I do see a ball, I will definitely be afraid!  Since most children have balls at any age, I would do best in a home without children or ones that come visit, like grandchildren.  Sometimes kids don't watch where they are walking or try to have me do things, and I'm a mom too, so I understand.  They can pet me any time.  In fact, anyone can come and give me attention!  As long as I have someone to give me love, I am always happy!

As long as you understand that I will take a while to learn all sights and sounds and that I may be afraid with certain sounds that are new to me, I am willing to learn about your home and your family and become a part of it.  My mom says that my first night will be the hardest for me and after that the first week.  Things that I may have done really well with in my foster family's home may scare me initially at your home, so just remember that anything that moves or makes a sound may cause me to be afraid.  Probably not, but if you watch me, then you will know to pet me and say its ok and then I will be fine the next time you do it again.  Once you learn my cues (since I won't bark!) I would be happy to tell you anything you like, if you listen!  My mom finds that keeping me on a leash attached to her the first few weeks really helped her to learn about me.   Oh, and lastly, though I will go into a crate and be happy inside, it must be a plastic crate instead of a wire crate.   Someday I will tell you all about this, but for now, just know that I need it!  So, are you special enough to be my new family?  My mom and dad say I should hold out for someone who can give me lots of loving.....I just want to make you happy if you are patient enough to see my potential.

My name is Dora   Location: Omaha, NE
Gogo

Age: 9 years old

Gender: Female

Status: Spayed

Housetrained: Yes

Cats: Unknown

Children: Yes

Child age: Any age

Temperament: Very Loving

Dora was picked up as a stray in the Omaha area and taken in by the Humane Society  before coming to RRUS.  Since she was a stray, we are not exasctly sure of her age.  The vet's best guess is that she is at least nine.

She gets along wonderfully with the 4 dogs in her foster home and she just joined the group as soon as she walked in the door of her foster home.  It was as if Dora had been around these dogs her entire life.

Dora had to have been someone's house dog.  She is very comfortable on the couch and has even discovered her foster parents bed!  She is not allowed to sleep with them but she likes their bed.

Dora would love a forever home full of love and even another dog or two.  She has a lot of love to offer.

My name is Scarlett   Location: Illinois
Gogo

Age: 4 yrs

Gender: Female

Status: Spayed

Housetrained: Almost

Cats: Possibly

Children: Yes

Child age: Any

Temperament: Energetic and playful

Other Info: Scarlett is small for a Ridgeback, weighing in at just over 60 lbs. What she lacks in size she makes up for in love. She hasn’t met a person or dog she doesn’t like and she gives both humans and canines kisses to show her love. Scarlett is almost four years old and is just now coming out of her shell. She loves to play with her foster brother and sister Ridgies and loves to be next to her people. In fact, her favorite place is wherever her people are. She was kept outside most of her life, so she is working on the housebreaking, but almost has it down. She knows how to sit, lie down, come and go to her crate. She loves to watch TV and believes the people and animals in the TV are really in the room with her. Scarlett needs a home that has a lot of love to give and is fairly active, as she is still burning off some of her puppy energy. If you are interested in this beautiful, sweet girl please fill out an application.

My name is Redman   Location: Houston, TX
Gogo

Age: 4 Years old

Gender: Male

Status: Neutered

Housetrained: Yes

Cats: Yes, as long as the cat doesn't mind being chased and/or will stand up for themselves.

Children: Unknown

Child age:

Temperament: Easy going, playful, loves attention!

Other Info: My name is Redman and I am almost 4 years old. I love to hang out with my humans no matter what they are doing! I love walks and hanging out on the couch. As long as I am with my family, I don’t care what we do! I am housebroken, walk well on a leash and am crate trained. I am also learning how to sit, lay down and stay when asked. I love other dogs, especially dogs that like to play like a Ridgeback – with lots of body slamming and barking. I would love to be in a home with another dog who likes to play like me. I find cats a little scary. There is one where I am at now who will smack at me with her claws if I get too close…In her defense, I should say that I did chase her when I first got here. I didn’t realize then that cats have built-in weopanry! I am a smaller ridgeback – only weighing in at 50 – 55 pounds. What I lack in size, I make up for in personality! I can definitely hold my own with the big dogs! I love adults but have not been around children much. I have lots of love to give and would love to give it to you!

My name is Nash   Location: Indiana

Age: 4-1/2 years

Gender: Male

Status: Neutered

Housetrained: Excellent

Cats: Not sure

Children: yes

Child age: 8 and up

Temperament: Friendly and Loving

Other Info:

Hi everyone!  My name is Nash and I am looking for a home to call my own. I would like to have a family with kids.  Every time my foster mom and I go to a pet event I love to see all the kids and give them kisses.  But I am very tall and weigh 92# so maybe kids a little older would be good. But I can be happy without them too. Don't let my face fool you. I am not old and the vets have guessed me around 4 or 5 years old.  I have what they call a reverse mask.  I am very playful and have fun playing and running with my foster sisters.  But I am at the stage where playing is fun, then I am ready to settle down and be lazy!  My foster family walks every morning and I am really enjoying that.  I also love to go for car rides and am very good. I am okay with dog savvy cats.  I am very smart and training me is easy if you have treats! I am crate trained but I really don't like being locked up.  I am good in the house and it is not necessary, but my foster mom says I need to learn to be crated. So it's in the crate when she goes to work. I even try to open the crate door and go in myself to help her out. I am a lover too!  I would love for you to let me lay next to you on the sofa and put my head in your lap. I am a good boy and will do whatever you say, so please consider giving me a home.

Other Info: Rafe loves his humans! (And, he loves his treats - that's what he is so intent for in this picture). He would be a great companion for you if you work out of or stay at home. Plus, he loves car rides. His ideal home would have a mostly-at-home person who wants a companion for around the house and on errands. My name is Gunner   Location: St. Louis, Missouri

Age: 4 years

Gender: Male

Status: Neutered

Housetrained: Yes mostly

Cats: yes

Children: yes

Child age: 9 accustomed to dogs

Temperament: Friendly and Loving

Other Info: GUNNER the Silly Clown is looking for his Angel. Could it be you??

Gunner is a very special purebred RR looking for a family of his own. He is in search of a very responsible family who can devote a lot of time and attention to his care, as well as be extremely understanding of his special needs. Gunner is on medication 2x a day (morning and night) to control seizures that he has had for the last 4 years. Proper administration of this medicine is critical to his survival. He has responded very well to the medicine and his seizures are not nearly as severe as in the past; they occur approximately once every 6 weeks or so.

Gunner is a joy to have around the house! Although it takes him a while to get warmed up, once you earn his respect and trust you will have a wonderful loyal best friend! He is more comfortable with females but will also bond with males given time and attention. Gunner will require more attention because of his medications which essentially make him a little out there and goofy in a very lovable way. He has the innocent enthusiasm of a “mentally challenged/special needs” child and is just a big bundle of joy sent straight from heaven! I have no doubt that the family that devotes themselves to Gunner will be blessed in more ways than they will ever imagine!

Gunner is a goofball and spends his days lounging in the grass in the backyard with the other RRs. When I come home from work, he bounds into the house and is so excited that he prances around and looks so happy and silly. He sometimes slips and slides and falls onto the floor or into the wall but this never phases his positive attitude. Gunner has helped me to realize that I am very in control of the mood that I decide to be in and has shown me how important it is to manage the feelings and emotions that I put out to the world because in the past I was unaware just how much they can affect others. In my opinion Gunner is a very sensitive dog who picks up on those feelings and emotions and will sometimes react to them physically through seizures so it is important that he is in a household with very little drama or negativity. I have been fostering him for 4 months and he has had 2 episodes of seizures that I know of; his medication is figured out now so we hope to see the period between seizures widen dramatically. Gunner sleep at the side of my bed and is housebroken. He adores healthy snacks and likes to eat some sort of fruit everyday, his favorite is apples, bananas, and strawberries!

Just as a special needs child requires extra attention, so does Gunner. Sometimes he does not realize that he is in danger of hurting himself; he will try to put his nose right on a burning hot pan, or not realize his tail is sitting in a potentially hot radiator, or chewing a toy while his gums are bleeding all over it and not feel the pain to stop etc….When it comes to other dogs he does not always realize the normal boundaries that other animals have and will not think anything of prancing up to a dominate dog and trying to also eat their food or take their toy. My dogs have been extremely forgiving and seem to understand that Gunner is “different” so they have made exceptions for him that they do not give to each other; it has been a delight to behold their kindness toward him. Gunner can get along with other dogs, cats, and has been around my horses as well. Once in awhile Gunner can be a little unpredictable when first meeting guests, and although he gets along great with my 11 year old, I think that a home without children or with mature doggie experienced children would be best.

Gunner needs a doting loving mother and/or father to take care of him and share in his joy and enthusiasm for life. Although the cost of his care is slightly higher because of the medication it is a small price to pay for such an adorable soul, and the return on your investment will be more than worth it in a million different ways!! If you are the very special person who feels something stir in your soul when reading this please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions, it might sound daunting but I assure you it’s really quite simple to care for Gunner and well worth it (Gunner loves his medicine) and I know that Gunner is meant to deeply bless a special someone out there!

My name is Kobe   Location: Illinois (west central region)

Age: 1 years

Gender: Male

Status: Neutered

Housetrained: Yes

Cats: no

Children: yes

Temperament: As goofy as they come and sweet enough to get a cavity!

Other Info:  Kobe is an easy going boy.  He is 80 lbs of goofiness and twice that in love.  The begining of his life was filled with love from his family, but do to economic and career changes, the family realized that there was not enough time for Kobe.  So they put Kobes best interest first and surrendered him to RRUS, but not with out many tears.   They spent A LOT of quality time and attended obedience school with him and it shows.  Kobe is housebroke and crate trained (quiet as a mouse).  Sit, Wait and Down are his strongest commands and we are working on a stronger recall, just gets side tracked by the birds and the butterflies!  He shares toys, food and treats well with other dogs and people.  Walks great on the leash with the use of a "gentle leader" or "Halti" style collar, that is what he was trained on.

The best suited home would be an active family.  Another dog or regular visits to a dog park will make Kobe very happy since he has a large love for his canine companions.  There is plenty of puppy energy to still burn off.  He is a lover, and needs his daily scratches and pets.  If you are interested in Kobe, please fill out an application and if you are already in the system please feel free to email RRUS and let us know your interest in him.
